The COVID-19 has caused all sort of havoc in the World. The World has been forced to go into lockdown mode. India have been locked down till 14th April and possibly, this is end of the IPL 2020 hopes also.
With the chances of IPL 2020 looking very slim, this could have a large impact on the Team India combination for the upcoming World T20 in Australia. Incase of no IPL and a couple of slots in the Indian team are still up for grab, the possible contenders might miss out on the bus to Australia.
Players like Krunal Pandya, Samju Samson, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni might feel that with the cancellation of IPL they have been robbed off a good opportunity of pushing their case for the World Cup.
Recently, former Indian Player Aakash Chopra pointed out five players who can suffer in case of cancellation of IPL 2020. First in his list is Mr. IPL Suresh Raina, the veteran left-hander is one of the batting mainstays of Chennai Super Kings but has not played for India since 2018 and the cancellation of IPL will not do a world of good for him.
Next in the list is Krunal Pandya, the senior Pandya was in team India’ scheme of things of before a dip in form forced Indian selectors to drop him. And the IPL 2020 could have played a vital hand in his comeback tale.
Chopra’s list includes another youngster in the form of Sanju Samson. The Kerala lad finally earned a recall from the national team after a long gap of four years during the Bangladesh T20Is in November. But the lack of opportunities always kept his short of a permanent slot in star-studded batting line up.
While Samson’s case if weakened by lack of opportunities, the next two, in the list, might miss the World Cup berth due to the missed opportunities and lack of game awareness. Both Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube have been given numerous opportunities by the Indian selectors. But both of them have failed to seal the spot in Indian Team.
