BCCI ombudsman Justice DK Jain (retd) has issued notice to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on the incident that happened on the tv show “Kofee with Karan”.
What happened was that both players took part on the TV chat show of bollywood producer Karan Johar. In that show their statements were considered misogynistic and outrageous, particularly for women. Both were seriously trolled over this incident on social media platforms.
Although both players offered an unconditional apology, they were still suspended by Committee of Administrators. The suspension was however lifted as the CoA decided to wait for the appointment of an ombudsman. After that, Supreme Court of India appointed retired Justice DK Jain as an ombudsman of this matter in February.
This is the first time that justice DK Jain has issued notice to both players after being appointed ombudsman in this matter.
He said “I have sent them the notice. It is for them to appear or not, It is part of natural justice. You cannot hold someone guilty without having given them the opportunity to present their case. It’s up to them now to decide when they want to appear.”
He also said there was no deadline given to him by the BCCI to take a final decision. However, both the Indian team management as well the national selectors would want to resolve this issue full & final before April 25 keeping in mind that they have to announce Indian team squad for World Cup which is starting from May 30.
When asked to him whether the players have confirmed their attendance, he replied it is not necessary. But it was important for him to listen to what they had to say. The timing of the hearings is a concern for the IPL franchises of these two players because they may have to skip 1 or 2 matches to attend this hearing.
