Chris Gayle named as the vice-captain of West Indies team for the world cup 2019

Currently, the Windies team is playing a tri-series in Ireland. West windies won the first match of Tri-series against Ireland but lost the second match against England. Some are big stars who are not available for this series but for the world cup Andre Russell, Chris Gayle will join the Windies team. Both players are looking in the form. Chris Gayle scored 490 runs in the ongoing IPL for Kings XI Punjab while Russell scored 510 runs for Kolkata knight riders.

West Indies cricket board announced Chris gayle name as the vice-captain for the world cup 2019.

After this announcement, Chris Gayle said,

“It is always an honor to represent the West Indies in any format and this World Cup for me is special. As a senior player, it is my responsibility to support the captain and everyone else in the team. This will probably be the biggest World Cup, so there will be great expectations and I know we will do very well for the people of the West Indies.”

Gayle had last captained West Indies side in 2010. He set to retire after the world cup 2019. So he can try to win the world cup. Chris Gayle has played 288 ODIs for Windies and makes 10151 runs at an average of 38.02. He also scored an ODI double century.  He made 215 runs during his double century against Zimbabwe in the world cup 2015.

After retirement, he can continue to play in the various t20 leagues. Recently he back in the Jamaica Tallawahs team for the upcoming season of CPL.
