Cricket fraternity reaction on Team India squad for world cup 2019

Finally, after a long wait Indian team squad for world cup 2019 was announced by Chairman of selection committee MSK Prasad. The doubt on back-up wicket-keeper is cleared today. Dinesh Karthik was included as back-up wicket-keeper instead of Rishabh Pant. MSK Prasad after announcing the squad said that the second wicket-keeper will only get a chance to play in case MS Dhoni sustains an injury. Keeping this in mind the selection committee decided to pick Karthik over Pant as the former’s experience can prove to be handy in crucial encounters.

The side will be led by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be the vice-captain. The Indian team for World Cup 2019 comprises five specialist batsmen, two wicket-keepers, three fast bowlers, three all-rounders and two specialist spinners. Ravindra Jadeja was included in squad but Vijay Shankar was preferred over Ambati Rayudu.

MSK Prasad also said that Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini are also reserved back-up pacers. They would be on stand-by, if required  will fly down to England if the need arises. KL Rahul will be a back-up opener.

Overall, selectors have preferred experience players over youngsters. This means that Indian team is very serious about championship and will be going in world cup with their full power and capability to win the championship. With Ambati Rayudu not been named in the squad, all-rounder Vijay Shankar  likely to play at No. 4 for India.

However, former cricketers were shocked at the team selection as no fixed candidate has been picked for the most debated number four spot. While few felt that it was a harsh decision to drop Rayudu. Many also believed that Pant should have been included in the 15-member squad.
