If the reports are to be believed, Chennai Super Kings are all set to end contracts with Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina. Last month, Chennai Super Kings suffered a huge blow when two of its seasoned campaigners Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh pulled out of IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. While Harbhajan didn’t joined the team in the UAE, ‘Chinna Thala’ aka Suresh Raina returned India citing personal reasons after spending a week in UAE.
Moreover, while Harbhajan’s exit from IPL 2020 looks obvious, the way Raina left CSK in made controversies. Earlier, there were reports that Raina left the UAE after a tragic incident in his family. However, contrary to the earlier reports, it was found thatRaina was unhappy with the team management before he left the team. There were also reports of a rift between him and captain MS Dhoni.
Moreover, the comments from CSK Owner N Srinivasan had also indicated that all was not well inside the team. ‘‘He (Suresh Raina) got the limelight over his head and trying to make a fuss,” had commented Srinivasan on Raina leaving the team.
“The season has not begun yet and Raina will certainly realise what he is missing and certainly all the money he is going to lose,” he had added. “My thinking is that if you are reluctant or not happy, go back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head.”
But it seems like, Suresh Raina days with CSK are all but over. A few days ago, heleft CSK’s Whatsapp group and also unfollowed CSK official twitter handle. Now, the CSK franchise has removed Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh’s name from its official website and has also started the contract termination process of the duo. This news is like ‘Boult from the Blue’ for CSK fans, who were demanding and expecting ‘Chinna Thala’ to make a mid-season comeback in the IPL.
Both the players have penned a 3-year deal with the CSK following 2018 IPL auctions and the deal was supposed to end after IPL 2020. While Raina has signed an INR 11 crore per year deal, Harbhajan has secured an INR 2 crore annual contract with CSK. Also, there will be no salary given to the duo for the IPL 2020. “Players will only be paid if they play as they are not playing they won’t be paid,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by InsideSport.
