It is said that “Gain of one is loss of one”. This is what happened today. Cricket Australia has announced today that all players who are playing in IPL must return before May 2nd. This means that players like Steven Smith and David Warner who are backbone of their teams have to miss final stages of IPL 2019 as they have been selected in Australia squad for World Cup 2019.
Smith and Warner are currently playing for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively in the IPL 2019. They are likely to leave India before the final stages of IPL as Australia’s World Cup squad members are scheduled to assemble in Brisbane for a training camp ahead of the start of the ICC World Cup. The training camp will include three practice matches between Australia XI and New Zealand XI. Cricket Australia in a statement said that “The fifteen-player squad for the ICC world cup will assemble in Brisbane for a training camp at the National Cricket Centre on May 2.
The training camp will include three practice matches between Australia XI and New Zealand XI at Allan Border Field.”
This will be a big blow to franchisees of Australian cricketers, especially of David Warner and Steven Smith. David Warner has been in outstanding form, holding the orange cap with 400 runs, which includes a century and four fifties. SRH is heavily dependent on him and Jonny bairstow and both players will leave to their respective countries to attend practice sessions for World Cup 2019.
Steven Smith has not performed consistently well but his experience has been very valuable to Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan will play Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 30 before meeting Delhi Capitals in their last league match on May 4th, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will be up against Mumbai Indians and RCB on May 2nd and May 4th respectively.
