Ahead of their fixture against KXIP later in the day, Delhi Capital’s fast bowler Ishant Sharma has suffered a back injury on the eve of the match. According to report on Cricbuzz, the senior paceman injured himself during the training. Though the extent is injury is still unknown, the reports suggest that he could be sidelined for a good amount of time.

Injury to Ishant, right before their opening match, has come as a huge blow to Delhi Capitals and their plans. The 32-year old was instrumental in Delhi Capitals success in IPL last year. In 13 matches, Ishant took 13 Wickets at a good economy of 7.58 runs per over and a strike rate of 21.23. Ishant along with Kagiso Rabada formed a potent fast bowling pair as Delhi Capitals made it to playoffs in IPL 2019. This year around also, he was expected to play crucial role on slow pitches of the UAE.

Delhi Capitals, now, have to play either of Harshal Patel or Avesh Khan or alternatively they can opt for two foreign seam-bolwing options. But two seam bowling options means Capitals will find it hard to play Sandeep Lamichhane, who can be a bigger threat on UAE pitches.

Delhi Capitals will be up against KXIP for their opening fixture in Dubai later in the day. While both teams look strong on batting with exceptional Indian talents in their ranks, it will be their bowling that might decide outcome of the match.
