Devdutt Padikkal, according to the management, needs to play one more season of red-ball cricket before being considered for the Test team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the amended squad for the forthcoming five-match Test series between India and England. Many people speculated about Shubman Gill’s replacement in the squad at first. The injuries of Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar, on top of that, accelerated the rounds of replacement talks in Team India’s lineup.

The BCCI, on the other hand, stated that Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav would take their spot in the squad in place of the injured players. Both are currently playing in the white ball series against Sri Lanka with the second-string team. There had been some speculation over Jayant Yadav’s inclusion in the group as a Sundar replacement. Jayant Yadav was expected to travel to the United Kingdom since he is an off-spinner who can also charge with the willow. However, it was later discovered that the squad might not require him for the time being.

Devdutt Padikkal, along with Prithvi Shaw, was considered a contender for the opening berth. This year, the teenager had a strong domestic season and also displayed his talent in the Indian Premier League. He did not make the team, however, since the management believes he has to play one more season of red-ball cricket before being considered for the Test side. Padikkal currently has a red-ball average of 34.

Team India now has a lot of choices with this new squad, including Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was originally a stand-by player but has now been promoted to the main squad. Rishabh Pant has returned with two negative RT-PCR tests and has recovered from COVID-19, which is a relief for India.

At Durham, Team India played the County Select XI in a three-day warm-up game. This practice match would have been critical in assisting the players in comprehending the English conditions prior to the big test. The Indian pacers were great in the practice match, which will help India iron out its issues. England and India are now scheduled to face off in the first Test match, which will begin on August 4th.
