Captaining in T20s is always tougher than Tests and ODIs. Former New Zealand fast bowler, Danny Morrison, in a recent interview has picked MS Dhoni as his favourite captain.
The legendary wicket-keeper batsman is one of the iconic figures of Indian Cricket. The Ranchi-boy has not only guided team India to two World Cup wins but also made Chennai Super Kings one of the most consistent and second most successful franchise in the IPL.
“Looking at the vibe and the inspiration of that fellow (MS Dhoni) in yellow and what he did for India in blue and that helicopter shot which changes the course of the game… yes he is a lot older and finishing up (and) Rohit’s got more time. But for me Dhoni takes the pressure like no one else,” Danny Morrison was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.
While captaining a side, apart from taking right decisions, you have to remain calm and know your players really well to make decisions when the game moves so fast. This is the reason Dhoni’s calm template and Rohit Sharma’s monk like attitude make them the two most successful captains of Indian Premier League.
The two Indian stalwarts have helped their franchises scale new heights in world’s most successful Cricket League. Chennai Super Kings is the second most successful team in the history of tournament, winning the much coveted trophy three times (2010, 2011 and 2018) in the span of 12 years.
After the suspension of CSK in 2016 and 2017 season, MS Dhoni, in a disappointing stint, also captained Rising Pune Supergaint for 1 year before Steve Smith took over the reins in next season but RPS could not do much in both the years. But the lion roared back, in 2018 as CSK won the title on their return.
