With the IPL 2020 approaching its business, the battle for the top four spots has intensified. Most of the teams has figured out their ideal combination or it seem so. After their match against SRH earlier this week, CSK also seemed to have found their ideal combination. But Delhi Capitals, who are on a winning spree, seeded all the doubts again with one hell of a chase on Saturday.
In a match, where CSK’s weak suit performed well against Delhi Capitals inform bowling attack, an injury to their designated death bowler Dwayne Bravo cost them heavily.

Defending 180 runs against Delhi Capitals at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, CSK had DC at 159-4 after 18 overs with 21 still required off last two overs. Sam Curran, then, bowled an exceptional 19th over to pick the wicket of Alex Carey and gave away just 4 runs to leave 17 runs to defend in last over.
With Chahar and Thakur already bowled out and Dwayne Bravo off the field due to groin injury, CSK captain MS Dhoni had two options in leg-spinner Karan Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni went with Jadeja only to see Axar Patel carting him for three sixes in the over to win the match for Delhi Capitals.
After the match Dhoni clarified the reason behind it but it was the injury to Dwayne Bravo that costed CSK two points. The injury comes as a major blow for CSK and their plan to qualify for playoffs.
The franchise CEO, later in evening, said that Bravo’s injury is a little serious and the all-rounder might miss the action for a couple of weeks or for the whole tournament depending on further reports.
“We will get the reports by today evening and then the team management will have a fair idea with regards to the extent of Bravo’s injury. As of now, I can only say that it can either be a couple of games or a couple of weeks,” he said.
“I don’t think a replacement is an option at this stage because if a new person comes in, it will again be about having a quarantine period for him before he can join the rest of the squad. It is unlikely that we will look at a replacement for Bravo if he is out. But firstly, we are hoping Bravo isn’t out and the injury isn’t major,” he added.
This isn’t quite a usual situation for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. They have conceded their 6th defeat of the season in 9 matches and are very close for being eliminated from playoff race.
