Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Dinesh Karthik has stepped down from the captaincy and Now current England captain Eoin Morgan to lead the KKR team in the rest of the Indian Premier League 2020.

“Dinesh Karthik has informed the KKR management that with a view to focusing on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, he wished to handover the captaincy to Eoin Morgan,” KKR said in a statement.

“We are fortunate to have leaders such as DK, who has always put the team first,” Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR said.” It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes.

“We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain, who has been the vice captain, is willing to lead the side going forward. DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap and we expect that this transition will work in a seamless manner. On behalf of everyone at Kolkata Knight Riders, we thank DK for all his contributions as the captain over the past two and a half years and wish Eoin the very best going forward,” he added.

Eoin Morgan, who led the England ODI team to a World Cup win in 2019, was bought by the Knight Riders for INR 5.25 crore at the December 2019 auction.

Dinesh Karthik was leading the Kolkata knight Riders team from the last two season. In his captaincy, KKR reached in the playoffs of IPL 2018 but he failed to repeat this success in last year IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders have played seven matches in this tournament so far and has won 4 four matches out of them. They are standing at number four position in the points table with eight points.
