Another season opener another defeat, it was a usual start from Mumbai Indians except the fact that they lost their 8th consecutive season opener on Saturday. Playing against their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians were invited to bat first on a spongy wicket.
Mumbai Indians started well in the innings with Quinton de Kock taking the attack to CSK bowlers. However, twin wickets of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock forced Mumbai to reconsider their plans. Suryakumar Yadav and Saurabh Tiwary did a fine job in middle overs, before Mumbai Indians dramatically collapsed to 162-9 in 20 Overs.
Chennai Super Kings also didn’t start well in chase as they lost two wickets in first two overs. However, this was possibly the last time, CSK looked under pressure in the game. CSK’s experience duo of Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu counterattacked MI to almost kill the game. Ultimately, CSK chased down the down the target with 4-balls to spare. Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis were the star performers of the match with their twin fifties.
With the win CSK also narrowed down the win-loss gap against Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings and MI rivalry is one of the hottest rivalries IPL. Two of the most successful teams of IPL, with seven titles between them, have produced epic and nail-biting thrillers time and again. But this win gave CSK fans a chance to troll Mumbai over the loss.
