As we reported earlier that Gautam Gambhir has joined politics by joining ruling BJP. Now, BJP has given him ticket to run in Lok Sabha elections. He is going to contest from East Delhi seat against Congress’s Arvinder Singh Lovely and Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi Marlena.
Padma Shri awardee, Gautam Gambir had earlier joined BJP in presence of finance minister Arun Jaitley and Information Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad about a month ago. Ever since he retired from cricket in December 2018, Gautam Gambhir has been very vocal about his support to the ruling party at the Centre, and has often lauded and defended the policies and decisions taken by the BJP.
Gautam Gambhir is deeply imperessed by Prime Minister Narendar Modi viion. He said “I am impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision I am joining this party . I have contributed to the field of cricket and now hope to do more for the country” while joining BJP earlier.
Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all form of cricket in December last year. After that, he was vocal on many social issues and has been expressing his thought on social media. His coming in politics was surprise for many people as many speculations were raised in media about Gambhir joining the politics but he dismissed all these reports by calling them as rumors. But suddenly, he joined BJP.
Modi too is a great admirer of Gautam Gambhir. Modi praised him by writing a letter for his achievements and contribution in Indian cricket. Besides congratulating him on his success in cricket, Modi also praised him for his nationalistic stand and community service.
Along with Gautam Gambhir, Delhi BJP also announced Meenakshi Lekhi’s name as the party candidate from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
