Goa Tourism department issues notice to Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, a former Indian cricketer, has received a notice from the Goa tourism department. Yuvraj has made his Morjim villa available online for homestay. The authorities claim that this was carried out without being registered with the appropriate state departments.The Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 mandates registration of a homestay with the tourism department. 

It has come to the notice of the undersigned that your residential premises located at Varchewada, Morjim, Pernem, Goa is allegedly functioning as a homestay and is being marked on online platforms like Airbnb,” stated in the Notice.

 “This is where I spent time with my loved ones and the home is filled with memories of my years on the pitch,”  mentioned in the Tweet.

The concerned department has now scheduled a hearing for December 8.In a notice sent on November 18 to the cricketer’s “Casa Singh” villa in Morjim, North Goa, Deputy Director of Tourism Rajesh Kale asked the all-rounder to personally appear before him on December 8 at 11 a.m. for a hearing.

“every person intending to operate a Hotel/Guest House before operating it, has to apply for registration to the Prescribed Authority in the Prescribed manner.”

“Therefore, a notice is hereby given to you as to why penal action should not be initiated against you for default in registration under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982,”

“it will be assumed that the grounds mentioned in the notice are correct and on such assumption under Section 22 or in violation of any of the provisions of the Act, you shall be punishable with a fine which may extend up to Rs one lakh”.

The notice asks the cricketer, 40, why he shouldn’t be punished with a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for not registering the property under the Tourist Trade Act.

The department also cited a tweet from Singh in which he stated that he would only be hosting a six-person private stay at his Goa home on @Airbnb.
