International Cricket Council (ICC) has proposed a plan for upcoming 2023-2031 cycle on Feb 18. In the plan, ICC has introduced some new tournaments for the above cycle which include T20 Champions Cup and ODI Champions Cup in every four-year alongside the World Cups in 2026, 2027, 2030 and 2031.

While introducing the plans, ICC has asked all its member nations to share their views about the inclusion of these tournaments for 2023 – 2031 cycle. However, it is highly likely that the Big-Three will not be happy with the ICC’s proposed planning. But for the time being, there have been discussions going on between ICC and its members.

According to the ICC’s proposed plan, T20 Champions Cup will include top 10 nations in the ICC T20I rankings and the tournament will have a total of 48 games with each team playing every other team at least once throughout the course of the tournament.

On the other hand, the ODI Champions Cup will be the same as the recently dissolved Champions Trophy. The tournament will see top-six nations in the ICC ODI rankings having a go at each other in a 16 game blockbuster event.

But the problem lies in the fund management of respective boards or majorly the big three – Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA) and England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as they collect their most of the revenue from the bilateral series only.

With a larger number of ICC tournaments along with IPL and other leagues around, the Big-Three will find it difficult to manage the time window for bilateral series.

Another problem lies in the ICC’s latest revenue plan effective form the year 2023 as in the latest revenue structure, ICC have proposed that they will not give any fund to the hosting nation for organising ICC tournament. The hosting board itself has to raise funds from ticket revenue, sponsorship and other sources to conduct the tournament.

Here is the list of Events proposed by ICC for 2023 – 2031 cycle:

2023: Women’s ODI Champions Cup, ICC Men’s World Cup
