India is going to battle with the best side of International cricket that is Australia. They are going to resume international cricket from Friday after a long break. The visitors have to play without their match winning players like Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. This is the first time India is stepping into an international genre and facing the mighty Australia starting from three match ODIs in Sydney. Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar stated that India will definitely going to miss both the Sharmas.
Rohit Sharma had an hamstring injury in the IPL2020 Tournament in the mid season whereas Ishant Sharma, the pacer of Indian Test Bowling attack had played only one match of IPL2020 and attained an injury. The condition of both the players is still a concern for the management and the squad. Due to the sustained injury they had been also ruled out of first two Test matches and it is also notable that there presence in the remaining two Test matches seems dull too.
Sunil Gavaskar revealed that India will definitely miss both Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. The veteran quoted that the kind of form Rohit has established in the white ball cricket and as an opener in the Test format in recent times made an astonishing impact over Indian cricket. In reference to the Test cricket, he recently came to open the inning and stabilised the team with electrifying start. Rohit also holds a healthy average of 49.27 with 9115 runs in just 224 ODIs and registered only player with having three double centuries in his name in the international cricket.
“They will certainly miss the Sharmas. Ishant doesn’t as many one day games now, but Rohit Sharma definitely a big factor. Because he is at top of the innings in all formats of the game now since he started opening the batting in Test cricket last year. So he is, you know, the key in getting the team off to a very good start and his absence in the white ball games will certainly hamper India in getting off to a flying start,” quoted by Sunil Gavaskar to Micheal Holding in his YouTube channel.
The veteran also admitted that despite being a good and stunning performance in IPL2020 by KL Rahul’s Test position still remains in a doubt. He is a X-factor in the ODI format of Indian Cricket Team. Gavaskar also reveals that Rahul’s absence in Test cricket might not be unfavourable whereas any other player could show their capability.
“KL Rahul had an outstanding Indian Premier League. But he is been a little uncertain as far as his Test place is concerned. But as far as one-day cricket is concerned, he is okay. He is a certainty. So in a way, sometimes when somebody is not around, it is an opportunity for somebody else in the team to put his hand and show that he is capable of doing well too,” said by Sunil Gavaskar.
