What are the odds of a team losing a 40-over game after bossing 32-overs? You would definitely say very low but KXIP have managed to outdo all predictions. In the first match of double header on Saturday, KXIP conceded a narrow defeat by 2-runs against Kolkata Knight Riders to slump further in points table.
But Big blow for KKR during the second over of the KXIP chase, Andre Russell was chasing the ball and made a sliding dive in an attempt to stop the ball from crossing the rope. He failed to stop the boundary before going on to injure himself after crashing into the advertisement board. Andre Russell left the field and didn’t return on the field again. Australian all-Rounder Chris Green fielded in Russell’s absence. After the match, KKR Captain Dinesh Karthik gave some update on Andre Russell’s fitness.
“Whenever Russell gets injured, you know it is hard. He is a very special player, he is a very special person. We need to go and look at him and Make sure he’s okay,” said Dinesh Karthik after the match.
Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping that the injury is not serious and their star man is available for the next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Today.
“McCullum is encouraging me to bat higher, though I always feel I bat better somewhere in the middle. We have had these conversations, but at the end I give him the credit for keeping me in a place where I can contribute to the team’s success. Krishna is special, and is close to a spot for the India white-ball team. He has to make some adjustments but the way he bowled in the second spell shows why he is one of the better bowlers in India,” Karthik further added.
“I think Narine stands up for us all the time, he’s always looking out for the team. A lot of credit goes to Morgan for having the world’s best captain around. He keeps things very positive. As for the Maxwell shot, I was hoping it would land just short, and that’s exactly what ended up happening. Not easy to hit a shot over cover under pressure. But credit to the bowlers for finishing it really well with the ball,” Karthik said.
