The 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, which was suspended prior this year due to the Covid-19 second wave, will continue with a conflict between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 19, sources have affirmed. The main match of the rest of the period will be played in Dubai.
The 31 excess matches will be played at three settings — Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah — with Dubai set to have the last on October 15. While Dubai will have the primary qualifier on October 10, the eliminator and second qualifier will be played in Sharjah on October 11 and 13 separately.
Recently, BCCI had been compelled to defer the IPL after different players and care staff tried positive for Covid-19.
After the season was stopped, the BCCI had in a public statement expressed, “The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a crisis meeting has collectively chosen to delay the IPL 2021 season, with quick impact… The BCCI would not like to think twice about the wellbeing of the players, support staff and different members associated with getting sorted out the IPL. This choice was taken keeping the wellbeing, wellbeing and prosperity of the multitude of partners at the top of the priority list.”
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year.” Quoted by BCCI in a press release.
