Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has joined the Kandy Tuskers franchise in Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020. He will be the second Indian player to play in this tournament along with Manpreet Gony. Pathan joins a Tuskers roster that includes Chris Gayle, Liam Plunkett, Wahab Riaz and Kusal Perera.
“I am definitely looking forward to this,” Irfan Pathan told ESPNcricinfo. “Yes, I had retired from T20 cricket, but I can play around the world and hopefully I will be able to have fun with my game as well, which I didn’t have for the last two years. I think I can still play some, but I will start slowly and see how this goes, and then I will take it forward.”
“I just need a bit of clarity about domestic cricket,” he said. “As soon as I get some clarity, I would love to help out whichever team I can, share my experience, I would love to do it. That’s always open.”
Irfan Pathan represented India in 29 Tests and picked up 100 wickets, with his best figures being 7/59. In ODIs, he picked up 173 wickets from 120 matches. His best figures are 5/27. In T20Is, he bagged 28 wickets from 24 matches.
The tournament is likely to get underway from 21st November and will culminate on 13th December. Five franchises naming Colombo Kings, Dambulla Hawks, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Stallions and Kandy Tuskers will play a total of 23 games at two venues – Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota over the course of tournament.
