Senior Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who was nursing an ankle injury, has been ruled out of the first Test match between India and New Zealand starting from 21 February. His unavailability for the first test match has come as a big blow to team India’s plans ahead of the two-match Test series.
Ishant Sharma got injured in the round 6 of Ranji trophy in January. The senior pacer hurt his ankle badly representing Delhi in a match against Vidarbha. The senior pacer slipped while appealing for an lbw decision and was immediately taken for scans. The reports after the scans revealed a grade 3 tear in his ankle. After the injury, the pacer was sent to National Cricket Academy for the rehabilitation programme by BCCI. He was also included in the Test team for the NZ tour on the fitness grounds.
Ishant Sharma has been India’s go to bowler when going gets tuff in a test match. He was man of the match in India’s last test match against Bangladeshalso. And now, Ishant being ruled out of the first test, Indian team management will find it difficult to pick their fast bowlers for the first test. With JaspritBumrah struggling with his rhythm after comeback and Ishant not available, they have to be overly dependent on Shami and just hope that from Yadav orSaini, whoever gets a chance in the XI, comes good in the first test.
The first Test will be played from February 21 to 25 at Basin Reserve, Wellington. Both teams will give their all in the first game, as India will look to regain the lost momentum after T20 series and on the other hand, New Zealand will look to continue with the momentum they got in ODI series. The second Test will be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from February 29.
