Chris Gayle does not need any introduction when it comes to opening in a T20 match.  In a career spanning over two decades, the big-hitting Jamaican has earned reputation – opening the innings in almost all renowned franchise cricket tournaments the world over.

But surprisingly, the batsman has not been seen so far in the #Dream11 IPL 2020. After Gayle formed a solid opening partnership with KL Rahul in two seasons (2018&19) for KXIP, Gayle has been given a chance in the playing XI so far. KXIP has gone with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as their first-choice openers in two matches. Also, the four overseas player limitation and squad balance conundrum have player their part.

During a conversation on InsideSport’s ‘Amstrad Face 2 Face Cricket Series’, KXIP captain KL Rahul opened up on their plan regarding Gayle and his role in the squad.  “Chris Gayle has been the biggest match-winner in T20 cricket and to not play a match-winner like Chris is a very hard decision for us. The way he has come back after lockdown, the way he is batting, he is getting fitter and stronger by the day.

“He is striking the ball really well and some point in the tournament he will have a huge role to play,” added Rahul.

Famously known as the Universe Boss, Gayle has been the nightmare for the bowlers’ time and again. From the fast bowlers to medium pacers to spinners, Gayle hasn’t spared any of them – when in mood. Apart from hitting more than 13,000 T20 runs, Chris Gayle also holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket. The West Indian scored a blistering 175 not out against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League. He has hit 22 centuries and 82 half-centuries in this format so far.
