The Indian Premier League (IPL) is in danger of collapsing. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to reschedule the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (May 3). It would have been the IPL 2021’s 30th game.
The explanation for the abrupt postponement has not been revealed, but it is understood that COVID-related complications exist in the KKR camp.
According to the sources, the players who may have contracted the infection are Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, who may have been infected while undergoing injury scans. The BCCI is supposed to issue a statement shortly on this.
According to the sources, contact has been sent from the BCCI office to Ahmedabad, the venue of Monday’s game, and the local organisers, Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), have been informed that the game will be rescheduled.
The GCA representatives have been informed that the new date for the match will be declared on Monday afternoon.
The Royals Challengers Bangalore, led by Virat Kohli, are in third place with 10 points from seven games, while the Kolkata Knight Riders are in seventh place with two wins from the same number of games.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are just 2-3 games away from win to cement their qualification in the playoffs spots whereas Kolkata Knight Riders now have to win every game with maintaining the net run rate as well. It will be the rivalry match which will be played between both the historic franchises.
