Cricket is called ‘Gentlemen’s Game’ and it has truly been. In Cricket, the fierce competitors on the field can be seen sharing some immortal bonds off the field. While they stand neck and neck on the field, they equally laud each other’s efforts and accomplishments off the field.
Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have formed one such bond over the 13 years of IPL. Two of the most successful teams of IPL, with seven titles between them, have produced epic and nail-biting thrillers time and again. Such is the audacity of their rivalry that losing a match makes a dent in personal images of their fans. The fans even call for revenge after losing a clash against their arch-rivals.
When Mumbai Indians cliched the 2019 IPL title after defeating Mumbai in Finale, CSK fans must have felt a thing or two about revenging the loss. And ironically, when the two teams were again up against each other in season opener of #Dream11 IPL 2020, the commentator asked MS Dhoni whether he has revenge on his mind.
“Being a gentlemen’s game, you don’t think about revenge (against MI). You think about the mistakes you made,” was the epic reply of MS Dhoni.
Clearly, MS is one character that believes in ironing out chinks rather than wasting energy on thinking of revenge. Proving their captain right, eventually, Chennai Super Kings won the season opener by 5- wickets. After Mumbai posted 162 runs on the board, Chennai chased down the target with 4-balls to spare. Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis were the star performers of the match with their twin fifties. With the win CSK also narrowed down the win-loss gap against Mumbai Indians. So far, CSK has 12-17 win-loss record and will look to further improve it in upcoming matches.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians lost their 8th consecutive season opener on Saturday. In a thrilling contest, they showed glimpses of brilliance but could not convert them into a match winning performances.
