In their Indian Premier League match in Ahmedabad, the Delhi Capitals opener smashed a 41-ball 82 with a perfect strike rate of 200 against the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders. Captain Rishav Pant jumped out to an early lead by winning the toss and bowling first in favourable weather. After a strong start in the power play, KKR faltered in the middle step this time. After six overs, they were 45/1, but Rahul Tripathy, Eoin Morgan, Sunil Narine, and ShubmanGill all went to the pavilion. Andre Russell contributed to their 154-point total, but it was clearly below par.
There was no way back for Eoin Morgan’s side after Prithvi Shaw hit six boundaries in the first over of KKR’s young pacer Shivam Mavi. Then, Pat Cummins took three wickets, but it was just a consolation prize.
Prachi Singh, Shaw’s rumoured girlfriend, shared her joy on Instagram stories after Prithvi won man of the match against KKR. “I am proud of you,” she said in her first storey. It was a cute joke about his whole night of honours in the second one.
Former Delhi opener Virender Sehwag praised Shaw, saying he “ran an outstanding inning” and that “even Sehwag couldn’t hit six fours in an over in his entire career.” This demonstrates that the batsman’s timing and positioning is impeccable.
“Without a doubt, Shaw was a fantastic hitter.” He didn’t seem to have come to see a cricket match. Maybe it was the confidence he gained from playing with Shivam Mavi in the U-19 squad, but he knew exactly where the bowler would strike. In nets, I’ve batted against Ashish Nehra several times. I’d never be able to hit him for six boundaries in an over in a domestic game. “Congratulations to Prithvi Shaw on a brilliant innings.”
“If he had gotten a hundred, it would have been more interesting. He’s certainly been through some adversity. But now, when the runs came in, he had to have scored a hundred or stayed undefeated to end the chase.”
“Playing involves slamming six boundaries for all six bats. He hit any ball through the ideal distance, which is difficult to do. I’ve opened countless times in my career and fantasised about breaking all six balls. Despite this, I only got around 18 or 20 runs. I wasn’t quite able to strike six boundaries or six sixes in a row. To do so, you must be precise with your pacing to seek out those gaps.”
Delhi captain Rishabh Pant was also ecstatic after his team came back from a one-run loss in the previous game to win. Shaw, according to Pant, will do great things if granted the right trust and encouragement.
“He is a gifted athlete, and we all know it. If you give him the courage to believe in himself, he will do great things. I was just trying to get him to play the standard game. We should relax a little and dream about a run rate in this kind of match.”
Shaw is now in third place behind Shikhar Dhawan and Faf Du Plessis in the Orange cap race. What he has to do now is stay on track till the end of the season. There will undoubtedly be opportunities to score more runs. He has always learned from his mistakes. That seems to be the case, and the situation has improved. Let’s see how many runs he will rack up over the next few weeks!!
