The Punjab Kings have signed Nathan Elis, an up-and-coming Australian cricketer who has been inducted into the national squad as a Twenty20 World Cup travelling reserve. The decision comes after Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith, two of their Australian recruits, were ruled out of the Indian Premier League’s UAE leg in 2021.
Satish Menon of the Punjab Kings announced the signing to Cricbuzz. “Jhye and Riley’s fitness state was unknown to us until yesterday (August 18). Only after the Cricket Australia press conference did it became clear that they would not be able to compete in the IPL. Elis has been signed as a replacement player. In a day or two, we’ll introduce the second replacement “a franchise CEO told Cricbuzz.
“We are in talks with a few players. Anil (Kumble, the head coach) will finalise soon.”
Punjab Kings already was in a big trouble due to the lack of intent in their bowling unit and now with the absence of Meredith, they will be in dense situation. It will be big chance for Nathan Elis to show his skills and in this stage this will be big opportunity for the Aussies pacer after being picked in the Australian squad for t20 world cup.
