Record Broken by Virat Kohli


Indian run-machine Virat Kohli played another superb innings against Australia on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, after displaying an unexpected batting error in the first two games of the three-match T20I series.

Kohli scored a match-winning fifty as Rahul Dravid-coached Team India outclassed Aaron Finch and his men in the final-over thriller at Hyderabad, staging India’s impressive comeback with an outstanding hitting by Suryakumar Yadav.

Virat Kohli, whose run total in international cricket surpasses Rahul Dravid’s record of 24,064 runs, became synonymous with batting records across all formats on Sunday.From 1996 to 2012, Dravid, the head coach of Team India, led the Asian giants by scoring more than 24 thousand runs in 504 games.

In the series finale, Virat Kohli overtook Dravid as India’s leading run-getter with 63 runs off 48 deliveries.In the elite list, Virat Kohli is already ahead of Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, and Virender Sehwag.In 471 international matches, the former Indian captain has scored 24078 runs for Team India.

Interestingly, the 33-year-old is only one spot lower on the list than Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.Tendulkar, a legendary batsman, scored 34,357 runs in 664 international matches for Team India.Virat Kohli, India’s batsman extraordinaire, has scored 71 centuries and 125 half-centuries in international cricket.

He had previously ended his 1020-day century drought at the 2022 Asia Cup.Kohli is only behind Indian captain Rohit, who is the highest leading run-scorer in T20I cricket (3,694), who has scored 3,660 runs for India in 107 T20I matches.

It was important to maintain my composure and get one boundary (on that first-ball six in the 20th over). I’m happy with my contribution to the team, I took a break, went back to the nets, worked hard on my fitness and think it’s coming off well.
