Rajasthan Royals have announced the signing of Gerald Coetzee, a 20-year-old South African pacer, as his substitute, just a week after Liam Livingstone’s return to England. It comes after the franchise had previously signed another South African batsman, Rassie van der Dussen.
After a slew of injuries and players withdrawing for personal reasons, the Rajasthan Royals were limited to only international players earlier this season. Ben Stokes was replaced by South African batsman Rassie van der Dussenafter the franchise was limited to only four international players.
However, the franchise has revealed that Gerald Coetzee, a 20-year-old up-and-comer pacer, will replace English all-rounder Liam Livingstone, who pulled out of the tournament due to bubble fatigue. So far in his career, the all-rounder has only played eight T20 games, scoring 24 runs and taking nine wickets.
“Rajasthan Royals have signed South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for England’s Liam Livingstone for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021,” IPL stated in its press release.
“Coetzee has played eight T20 matches so far and has taken nine wickets at an average of 23.33 in the format. He has represented his country in two under-19 World Cups,”it added.
On Sunday, i.e., 2nd may,2021, the 28th match of the Indian Premier League 2021 will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. All of these teams are at the bottom of the standings and would like to improve their position. The Royals lost their previous match against the Mumbai Indians, and they will be looking to rebound. The Sanju Samson-led team’s batting unit has become an issue, and they’ll have to work together to overcome it.
