Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir has named Rohit Sharma the best captain in Indian Premier League. In the show ‘Star Sports Cricket Connected’ the two time IPL winner said, “I think it’s Rohit Sharma. He has won it four times. Captaincy is all about winning trophies.”
While there is little doubt that Rohit Sharma is one of the best batting talents India has ever produced. The captaincy credentials of Rohit Sharma speak highly of him, the Mumbaikar is the most successful captain of Indian Premier League – winning four titles under his captaincy. Sharma is also the only player to win 5 titles of the much coveted IPL trophy – once for Deccan Chargers and 4 times for Mumbai Indians.
Rohit Sharma, after playing his initial three editions with the now dissolved Deccan Chargers, was grabbed by Mumbai Indians in 2011 season. In the 2013 season, Ricky Ponting gave over the reins to Rohit Sharma mid-way through the season. And then started the journey of success as Rohit Sharma ably supported with the likes of Ponting led Mumbai Indians to their first ever IPL trophy win in 2013.
Praising the Right hander for his outstanding record, Gautam Gambhir also reckoned that Rohit is bound to win more such trophies in upcoming years. “He will end up being the most successful IPL captain of all time as well. He has 4 already, he may finish at 6-7 maybe under his belt,” he added.
Rohit Sharma also has a good track record in international captaincy also. In the last Asia Cup, he helped team India grab the title. However, a lot of credit for his success also goes to the most settled and strong outfits he has at his disposal. But it’s the monk like attitude of Rohit Sharma that makes him the most successful captain of Indian Premier League.
