After the conclusion of the mini auction of the 14th edition of Indian Premier League, many crucial bidding and unexpected call was seen and one of them was Australian Star Player, Steven Smith gets place in the Delhi Capitals.

He was the former captain of the Rajasthan Royals and was got released by the franchise in the recent list of released player. And with this Delhi Capitals bought him for an amount of 2.2Cr.

After buying him, Former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir reckons that he doesn’t see Steven Smith in the playing XI of Delhi Franchise.  It was shocking auction as Delhi was already having bunch of options for the opening slot with Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and top order filled up with Shreyas Iyer, Shimron Hetmyer, Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis.

“Steven Smith doesn’t fit into the Delhi Capitals playing XI. They are probably too top heavy, where they going to push him. They have got Shikhar Dhawan, who was in very good form, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant” quoted by Gambhir on interaction chat with Star Sports.

“They will definitely play Shimron Hetmyer in the middle order and Marcus Stoinis. Anrich Nortje and Rabada did really well for them. Now they have got Chris Woakes as well. So, I don’t see him actually in the playing XI” said by Gambhir.

Gambhir reckons that if Delhi had done something great in the auction then it would be picking Umesh Yadav and Sam Billings at cheap prices.

“The only good thing is they have got all these players at a very cheap price. Had they bought Steven Smith at a very high price, I wouldn’t feel very happy with it. Most of these steal buys especially, Umesh Yadav and Sam Billings”

After having a chat, Gambhir was asked to rate Delhi franchise according to the auction where he rated franchise with 8.5 out of 10. He also reckons that team is still lacking with wrist spin department.

They have only experienced services of Amit Mishra for the IPL.

“Eight and half. The reason is that I still feel they are little thin on the wrist spin because Mishra’s fitness is not sure, they have let go of someone like Sandeep Lamichhane. Had they gone for someone like Piyush Chawla and they would have got him, I would have give them nine” concluded by Gautam Gambhir.
