Stephen Fleming gives update on MS Dhoni & Ravindra Jadeja health

MS Dhoni missed the match against Mumbai Indians because of fever. Suresh Raina lead the Chennai Super Kings on Friday. This is the second time Dhoni has missed a game in this season; the first being against the Sunrisers Hyderabad because of back spasm. This time it is due to fever.

On his absence CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said that “I think you know the answer to that. He is a great leader and a great player. He’s been a constant for us for so many years. You just get into the rhythm while having him there. When you take a leader like that out, there are going to be some holes to fill. It’s not that we’re not trying to fill it. It’s just that the hole is quite big.”

The CSK head coach added: “It takes a mammoth effort to lift the team up when you have one of the best player who is unavailable. It’s probably psychological as well. Though we’re good enough to do that… the two games we have played without him, the performances have been well-below par from a team perspective as well as an individual perspective.”

On asking what effect it has on other players in Dhoni’s absence, Fleming replied “I don’t think so (batsmen insecure in Dhoni’s absence). There’s a comfort when he’s there. He was there (batting) in the last game. The players are good enough and have enough experience to do it themselves. If we do have situations that don’t go our way, we should have the experience of dealing with it; which we haven’t at the moment. I think what concerns me is repetitive mistakes we made many times this season. The fact that we are still at the top of the table is a testament to bowlers and individual performances.”

Apart from MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja is also ill. Stephen Fleming gave update on Dhoni’s status that “They (Dhoni and Jadeja) both are pretty sick. Both are unwell.”
